Background: Having first qualified as a general nurse and subsequently as a midwife, Lisa has worked in a diverse range of clinical settings including general hospitals, a street clinic in Calcutta, a private hospital in London, the world-renowned Royal Marsden Clinic and GP practices in Dublin.
A move to the administrative side of healthcare brought Lisa into admin/managerial roles in private clinics and the non-profit sector (nurse education) where she drafted and implemented sound governance policies, and supported and mentored rotating Board Members in their new roles and responsibilities. Having built up a successful VA business, Lisa then established Aslan VA and Coaching Ltd and has mentored others who have set up small businesses.
Now: Lisa qualified as an Business, Executive and Personal Coach in 2016. Her coaching practice is underpinned by a deep knowledge of human physiology, the physiology of stress and how physical and mental health is woven into every aspect of our personal and working lives. This insight enables her to help clients recognise and manage stress, build resilience, make their health and wellbeing the cornerstone of every aspect of their lives, ground themselves and their leadership practices in their core values, reacquaint themselves with their life purpose, and design and implement meaningful changes that will last long after the coaching process has ended.
Through her 1:1 coaching, training, talks, books and online programmes she helps people from all walks of life – from teenagers doing exams to CEOs managing business and teams – to develop deep and embedded personal resilience using techniques based on neuroscience and human physiology.
Her Leadership Development 1:1 Coaching Programme for Nurses and Midwives is accredited for 10.5 CEUs from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and she has two online Nurse Leadership Programmes that are also accredited for CEUs from the NMBI. She created and manages The Resilience Hub which is an online resilience training site, with new bite-sized tips and tools added regularly and a weekly Resilience guide by e-mail. Her Resilient Leadership Programme is a comprehensive personalised 12 month 1:1 coaching programme that gives new leaders, managers and business owners the courage to lead and the energy to thrive.
Lisa has been on the Centre for School Leadership’s Coaching Panel for school leaders since 2017 and is an associate coach with Grace Consulting.
She has a special interest in health literacy and combines her nursing and coaching knowledge with I.T. skills to design creative ways to fill the gaps between what healthcare professionals say and what their patients hear. She has contributed to nursing and medical journals, websites and blogs, writing about new approaches and technology that enhance health literacy and inspire the motivation that’s needed to self-manage one’s health. Her weekly online round up of health literacy news is called ‘Filling The Gaps‘.
She is a strong advocate of best practices in patient care, quality of life and dignity at the end of life. Human rights and protecting the vulnerable are also strong core personal values.
